New 3PAR Plug-In for VMware VAAI The 3PAR Plug-In for VMware VAAI delivers advanced integration between 3PAR Utility Storage and the latest version of VMware vSphere to enable the degree of virtual machine (VM) scalability, performance, and agility demanded by enterprise and cloud datacenters.

The plug-in provides support for:

Hardware Assisted Locking, which reduces SCSI reservation contention that can impact performance in cloud-scale environments.

Block Zero, which offloads large, block-level write operations of zeros to storage hardware, thus reducing server workload.

Full Copy, which increases agility by halving the amount of time required to perform common copy operations like VM cloning and storage workload migrations using VMware Storage vMotion.

All three benefit uniquely from 3PAR’s built-in Gen3 ASIC, which accelerates performance in the case of Hardware Assisted Locking, and reduces capacity consumption in the cases of Block Zeroing and Full Copy.

3PAR is one of the first VMware partners to work under the VMware vStorage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI) initiative to deliver advanced integration of highly virtualized storage with the latest advanced vSphere capabilities. Learn more »

New 3PAR Thin Persistence with VMware vSphere 3PAR Thin Persistence software ensures storage capacity efficiency by maintaining the thinness of all three VMware vSphere virtual machine disk (VMDK) formats at the storage layer. In addition, 3PAR Thin Persistence delivers performance benefits while eliminating the capacity tradeoffs associated with the highest-performing VMDK format, Eager Zeroed Thick. Unlike other storage platforms, the built-in zero-detection capability of the 3PAR Gen3 ASIC allows users to seamlessly create Eager Zeroed Thick VMs that do not consume physical capacity for the storage blocks that are "zeroed" at initialization.
