LETTER FROM THE CEO, DAVID SCOTT 3PAR Celebrates a Decade of Helping Customers Do More with Less 2009 has already been a momentous year for 3PAR, despite being in the midst of an intensely challenging economic climate. We have not only continued to demonstrate solid momentum through this recession—the second downturn we've weathered in 10 years—but we have continued to thrive. This is why we were recently named by the San Jose Mercury News as the seventh fastest-growing company in Silicon Valley. One secret to our success is continuing to offer pioneering new technologies such as our newly launched InServ F-Class Storage Server with Thin Built In™—the first-ever quad-controller array for the midrange and the fastest, smartest midrange storage array on the market. However, groundbreaking engineering achievements are only one side of our story. Traditional storage vendors continue to attempt to repurpose legacy storage arrays with bolt-on features that simply cannot compare with the agility and efficiency of utility storage. Their problem is not just architectural, but also economic. Legacy storage vendors have always and will continue to stake their livelihoods on the ability to convince customers to throw more disks, and therefore more software and professional services, at their storage problems. That's not our approach. Instead, we show utility storage customers that they can indeed do more with less. This year marks our first decade as the leading global provider of utility storage. We've continued to exercise the fiscal discipline that saw us through the dot-com bust. We've continued to invest strategically to grow our worldwide sales, support, and engineering organizations and to increase market share despite the current downturn. We have established ourselves as the utility storage platform of choice for 7 of the world's top 10 managed service providers and the de facto standard for today's most demanding cloud computing deployments. And we have set the stage for our future by continuing to invest in innovation. As you read through this issue of Plugged In, I encourage you to look back on the past ten years and consider what the next decade may bring—chances are that we're already working on it. Sincerely, David Scott, 3PAR President and CEO PRODUCT NEWS Forget Midrange Storage Limitations 3PAR has thrown midrange storage limitations out the window with the 3PAR InServ® F-Class, revolutionizing midrange storage with the first quad-controller array for mid-sized deployments. Forget midrange storage limitations with the fastest, smartest midrange storage array according to SPC-1™ benchmark results—the same results that also determined the F-Class to have one of the best price-to-performance ratios of any array on the market, in any class. The combination of 3PAR and VMware is ideal for delivering Enterprise IT as a utility service via the private cloud. 3PAR is also the only vendor that supports VMware's unique adaptive queuing technology—available in VMware ESX 3.5 as well as vSphere 4.0—to give your virtualized environment greater scalability. Adaptive queuing support not only increases performance levels, but also the number of virtual machines supported by applications running on the ESX servers attached to your 3PAR arrays.
