3PAR InServ E200 Named Storage Products of the Year Awards Finalist for Disk and Disk Subsystems

FREMONT, CA, January 24, 2007

3PAR®, the leading provider of Utility Storage, announced today that the 3PAR InServ® E200 Storage Server has been selected as a finalist for the Storage magazine and SearchStorage.com "Storage Products of the Year" awards in the Disk and Disk Subsystems category. The InServ E200, launched in August 2006, delivers the unmatched simplicity and efficiency benefits of Utility Storage in a scaled-down architecture ideal for mid-size deployments.

The winners of the Storage Products of the Year awards will be announced on February 5, 2007. The awards are judged by the Storage magazine-SearchStorage.com editorial staff, in conjunction with a team of users, industry experts, analysts, and consultants. The winners will be selected according to the following criteria: innovation, performance, ease of integration into existing environments, ease of use and manageability, functionality and value.

The E200 is ideal for departmental, replicated site and remote data center deployments. For the first time, enterprises and service providers with mid-size projects can cost-effectively deploy a utility-class array. No longer do organizations have to compromise by accepting limitations inherent in most platforms that fit within mid-sized budgets. Leveraging the same 3PAR InForm® Operating System and software as the InServ S-Class, the E200 offers 100% common data management with 3PAR's high-end platform. In addition the E-Class features Thin Provisioning, tiered-storage options with Fibre Channel and Nearline disk drives, both Fibre Channel and iSCSI host connectivity, and N-way active-active, cache-coherent clustered controllers.

"The InServ E200 Storage Server gives us the unmatched simplicity and efficiency benefits of Utility Storage in a scaled-down architecture that meets our business requirements," said Thor Peterson, Director of IT at Clarium Capital Management, LLC. "We never imagined this class of storage could be so affordable."

3PAR InServ E200 Storage Server benefits include:

  • Remarkable Ease of Use. The E200 cuts storage administration time by up to 90% and application-tailored storage is provisioned in 15 seconds. Automated Thin Provisioning enables a set it and forget it approach by allowing volumes to automatically draw capacity as needed from a shared capacity pool. Dynamic Optimization allows the E200 to non-disruptively convert data volumes from one service level to another with a single command, eliminating manual and disruptive change processes.
  • Dollar-Stretching Efficiencies. 3PAR Thin Provisioning and Thin Copy technologies--Virtual Copy and Remote Copy--cut traditional capacity purchases by up to 50%, letting users purchase capacity for written data only. Fast RAID 5 reduces capacity purchases for data protection by 66-88%, affordable Nearline drives deliver support for archive applications and abundant host connectivity reduces costly SAN purchases.
  • Multi-Dimensional Scalability. The E200 scales non-disruptively up to 128 drives and 63 terabytes. Customers can also non-disruptively configure up to 12 FC host ports plus 4 optional iSCSI ports for abundant, multi-protocol host connectivity. The E200 supports multiple drive classes for creating multiple storage tiers within a single, consolidated array.
  • High-End Availability Features. The E200 features full hardware and software fault tolerance, non-disruptive upgrades, permanent cache protection for prolonged power failures, and rapid RAID rebuilds. With the E200, customers can enjoy enterprise-class disaster recovery with 3PAR Remote Copy, hundreds of space-efficient snapshots per volume with 3PAR Virtual Copy for rapid application recovery, and massively parallel and automatically load-balanced system performance, even under failure conditions.
