Rewriting the Playbook with New Utility Storage Innovations

After establishing our beachhead in high-end storage, this has been a breakout summer for 3PAR. With the new E200 InServ® Storage Server and iSCSI support, we are launching ourselves further into the traditional enterprise storage landscape, breaking existing barriers along the way. The IT industry is continuing to shift towards a utility model, and 3PAR is visibly leading this charge. It is an extremely exciting time for us, and we are absolutely thrilled to have come from such humble beginnings to a point where we are shaping the rules of the game. 

Since coming to market in September 2002, more than 170 customers have purchased approximately 10 petabytes worldwide. With roughly 330 Utility Storage deployments to date, 3PAR arrays have become a strategic and trusted standard for mission-critical online storage deployments around the world.  Many customers now rely on 3PAR Utility Storage for 100% of their corporate data. Along the way we’ve revolutionized the industry with 3PAR Thin Provisioning.  Traditional storage vendors would have sold those same customers possibly 20 or 30 petabytes of storage and nearly 3 times as many storage arrays to meet exactly the same business need.  And that additional capacity would have come out of these customers’ pockets, both in the form of unnecessary capital purchases and in the consumption of extra electricity and data center floor space.  Electricity savings help reduce oil consumption, reduce the creation of ecologically unfriendly gases and can reduce the potential for global warming.  With Thin Provisioning, customers do not have to compromise between economic prudence and environmental friendliness.  Just make sure to: Think Thin. But revolutionizing the industry isn’t just about developing radical new technologies and bringing them to market to build customer momentum. It’s also about how these elements converge to actually change the market. Take for example the recent launch of our new E-Series product line. It is an important milestone for us. It is a direct response to the increasing number of customers who have been telling us they want access to all of the benefits of 3PAR Utility Storage for their mid-size deployments as well.  They love the idea of achieving complete management software compatibility and reduced training costs through a product line that now stretches from the mid-range to the high-end. With the E200, not only are we responding to this customer demand, but we are also giving an entirely new tier of enterprise deployments access to the game-changing benefits of Utility Storage. Add to this our recent announcement for iSCSI support on Utility Storage, allowing both Fibre Channel and IP networks to connect to a single InServ with great flexibility, and it is clear that 3PAR is rewriting the industry playbook once again.
