3PAR and Oracle Demonstrate Utility Computing at Oracle Enterprise Technology Center

Georgia Telco Credit Union Assesses Combined Benefits
Prior to Its Own Utility Computing Deployment

FREMONT, CA, US —February 21, 2006

3PAR®, the leading provider of Utility Storage, announced today that 3PAR Utility Storage has been deployed at Oracle's Enterprise Technology Center (ETC) in Atlanta, a state of-the-art facility designed to assist customers with implementing enterprise solutions. The ETC deployment of a 3PAR InServ® Storage Server enables customers to experience the benefits of a joint utility computing offering that features Oracle 10g and 3PAR Utility Storage.

3PAR also announced today that Georgia Telco Credit Union recently purchased an InServ for deployment with Oracle 10g after trial at the Oracle ETC. "Evaluating the 3PAR InServ and Oracle 10g at the Oracle Enterprise Technology Center is a quick and cost-effective way to assess these two outstanding offerings," said Scott McCall, Vice President of Information Systems at Georgia Telco Credit Union. "We witnessed in real-time the significant utility computing benefits of this 3PAR/Oracle joint solution."

As an Oracle Certified Partner, 3PAR designs utility storage that dramatically reduces the high cost of database storage. The Atlanta ETC is Oracle's largest hands-on demonstration and training center, and is used by Oracle and their global customers to develop, demonstrate, and test products and solutions in a full-scale environment. At the ETC, customers interested in the 3PAR/Oracle solution can experience benefits like simple and rapid storage provisioning and improved storage utilization with 3PAR Thin Provisioning. An InServ Storage Server is also deployed at the Oracle ETC in London, UK, to allow European customers to experience the same utility computing benefits of the joint 3PAR/Oracle offering as their US counterparts.

"With 3PAR, Oracle DBAs have the opportunity to reduce the time-consuming and risky tasks related to storage management," said James Olsen, Senior Director of the Oracle Enterprise Technology Center in Atlanta. "Whether it involves setting up volumes for Oracle 10g or indexing and loading a data warehouse, 3PAR reduces the time required and accelerates business results. We can demonstrate these benefits to even more of our customers with the 3PAR InServ here at the ETC."

3PAR's simple, efficient and scalable architecture was demonstrated during a recent InServ Storage Server upgrade at the ETC. Due to its versatility and ease of use, the 3PAR InServ Storage Server has been in continual high demand at the Oracle ETC since it was installed in February 2005. 3PAR Thin Provisioning helped to meet this high demand using minimal physical storage resources, allowing the 3PAR InServ to reach 90% storage utilization.

Having reached this high rate of utilization and needing to meet increasing demand for the InServ, the decision was made to expand the physical capacity of the InServ. The ETC more than doubled the array's raw capacityóonline and non-disruptivelyówhile RAC hosts ran load on the system. During the upgrade, 3PAR Dynamic Optimization was used to rebalance data finely across the system, maximizing volume performance and resource utilization. Details describing how this upgrade was implemented non-disruptively are documented in a 3PAR case study.

"The 3PAR upgrade was easy and non-disruptive. The additional InServ storage resources allow us to turn around many more customer requests for support and testing of Oracle solutions at the ETC," said Olsen.

"3PAR Utility Storage is the ideal storage platform for Oracle database deployments," said Steve Crimi, Senior Director of Business Development at 3PAR. "Partnering with Oracle has been very effective in demonstrating to our prospective customers the significant benefits that 3PAR delivers for Oracle 10g. We are especially pleased with the resulting business realized from our collaboration with Oracle at the ETC, like the addition of Georgia Telco Credit Union to our list of new customers."
